Jonathan Rees – Chair
Jonathan was a founder member of Taff Barged Development Trust in 1991. He is a Graphic Designer who worked for many years in the advertising and print industry. Between 1986 and 2001 he created Remax Landscaping, a small but successful business in Cardiff. In 1991 Jonathan trained as a Psychiatric Nurse and later developed specialist qualifications to become a Forensic Nurse. In 1998 Jonathan moved to the private sector and ran a private Nursing Home in the Valleys before returning to the public sector in 2000 as a Service Manager in Caerphilly. In 2002 Jonathan took up a Commissioning and Development role with Carmarthenshire County Council and continues to be employed by them.
Helen Thomas: – Secretary
Helen has been a Trustee for 20 years since she became a County Borough Councillor in 1995, holding the position of Company Secretary. She is a Social Science graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma and served as a Councillor for 13 years with Cabinet responsibility and serving as Deputy Leader for 6 years. Helen has also chaired the Taff Bargoed Communities First Partnership Board and is Company Secretary of Friends of Taff Bargoed Park and Quakers Yard Community Association and Vice Chair of Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil. Helen has also served as a community councillor for 20 years and has a school governor for 25 years. Her voluntary work was also recognised with an Outstanding Volunteering Achievement Award.
Colin Fenn – Trustee
Colin has worked within the private sector for many years and became a senior draughtsman. Colin has also worked as a Regional Service Manager and with a partner developed a building and electrical contracting company. He has served as chair of the Aberfan Canoe Club since 1999 and is a founder member of the Caerphilly and District Model Railway Society. Colin is Vice Chair of The Friends of Taff Bargoed and is keen on developments within the Taff Bargoed Valley and promoting model engineering.
Gillian Preston – Trustee
Gill has been an active member of a number of groups and served as a school governor, community councillor and on the Communities First Partnership Board for many years. Gill has previously worked as a commercial manageress and in a secretarial role to a managing director. Gill enjoys reading, walking her dogs and in meeting people and supporting local groups and developments.
Allan Watkins – Trustee
Allan is an experienced Business Improvement Professional and served within the manufacturing industry sector for the past 17 years. Allan’s specific areas of expertise concern quality assurance, project management, adult learning and skills development. He also specialises in business development, growth and profit which is also supportive to the Taff Bargoed Development Trust. Allan has served as a Trustee for a number of years and is also involved with a local club that demonstrates his community spirit.
Kate Moran – Trustee
Kate is an accountant technician and has worked for the local authority for 13 years in the internal audit department. Kate also worked as a duty manager at the Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel for 7 years. After finishing work with the local authority Kate studies a degree in Economics and Politics and has worked for a local MP as a Parliament Assistant for the past 15 years. Kate has also served as a local councillor for a number of years.
Kevin Moran – Trustee
Kevin joined the Trust in 2014 and is a very welcome Trustee due to the experience he offers the Board. Kevin previously worked as a senior buyer within the private sector and has gained a considerable amount of business knowledge that helps strengthen the Trust. Kevin is a keen sport enthusiast and is particularly keen in supporting Welsh rugby union.
Brian Mansbridge – Trustee
Brian has undertaken a number of roles as the chair and secretary of a variety of local groups and is very experienced. He is a local councillor and was also the Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council in 2014 – 2015. Brian enjoys politics and being involved in community projects. He is also a keen rugby union enthusiast.
Gareth Watkins – Trustee
Gareth served as a local councillor for the Treharris ward for a period of 4 years and has also been a Party Member for the past 30 years. Gareth has also been a member of two male voice choirs for 40 years. Gareth has also been an active member of two local clubs and joined the Taff Bargoed Development Trust as a Trustee in March 2014 and is a valuable member.
